22 year-old Welsh forward Corey Watkins, is known throughout the league as an agitator and big hitter, started his ENL career with Cardiff ENL Devils but has spent the last two seasons in Kent with Invicta Dynamos. He was voted the team’s player of the year last season and in the 2011-2012 season posted stats of 4 goals and 20 assists from 32 games with 142 penalty minutes. He ended the season as the league’s second highest penalty taker. As well as his stints with Cardiff and Invicta he has also turned out for the Devils in the Elite League as well as spells in the EPL with Swindon Wildcats and Romford Raiders.
Coach Jeremy Cornish is understandably delighted to confirm his new signing.
“I tried to sign Corey last year, but he had already committed to Invicta, so I’m happy he has decided to join our team for the upcoming year. Corey will add an element I feel we lacked last year and his grit and toughness will be a welcome addition. Corey is an excellent hockey player and will play in all situations for us. His no nonsense style of play will be very popular with the fans and his game will suit the Arena’s small ice surface. He’s the sort of player who’s a nightmare to play against so we’re delighted we’ll have him on our team this season. “
Corey is delighted to be on board with the Raiders.
“I’m really looking forward to this new challenge and hopefully winning a league championship on the Island. I’m really impressed with the club’s ambition and can’t wait to get started with the Raiders.”
