The final two pieces of the Raiders jigsaw for this season can now be revealed and we have two new faces joining the team from September.
19 year old netminder Nathan Gregory joins his older brother Jordan on the team this year. He replaces Dan Weller Evans who is sadly leaving the Island. Nathan is another ex Bracknell junior and has sent the last two seasons at the SISEC Varsity hockey academy in Calgary, Canada. He returns to the UK to take up his new position as backup netminder to Matt Colclough.
Head coach Jeremy Cornish says Nathan looks to be a player full of promise
“After Dan Weller-Evans told us he wouldn’t be playing for us this year we had to act quickly to secure an additional goalie. We believe he will give us a strong number two goalie and push Matty to be at his best. He is a bit of an unknown at this point, but I have had some positive feedback about his ability.”
Also new for this season is defenceman Sam Cheema. The 22 year old blue liner has had a couple of seasons away from the game but prior to that picked up significant experience at NIHL level playing over 70 combined games for Invicta Dynamos, Streatham Redskins and most recently Milton Keynes Thunder. He was considered one of the league’s most exciting young prospects prior to hanging up his skates. He is the sixth defenceman to sign.
Cornish says Sam is another player who can bring a lot to his team.
“Sam has been out of the game for a couple of years, but will bring some size and depth to our roster. He’s young and is very keen to come back into our league and prove himself.”
The two new faces complete the Raiders roster for the new season which starts next month with an away game in Oxford before the first home game against champions Chelmsford on the 24th.
