Raiders fans will be delighted with the return of another familiar face as defenceman Brendan Baird signs up for his second season as a Raider.
The 20 year old younger brother of former Raider Joe formed part of a tough looking Raiders defence last season and will be back patrolling the blue line this season. The Southampton born player spent the early part of his career with Bracknell coming through their junior programme before progressing the Bracknell Bees EPL team. After a season with Basingstoke Bison Brendan joined the Raiders last year posting stats of 2+16 from 45 games. He was also the team’s highest penalty taker clocking up 106 minutes in the box.
Head coach Jeremy Cornish says Brendan has what it takes to be a big player in this league.
“Brendan goes about his business with little fanfare. He’s dependable, tough and takes no nonsense from anyone. Brendan can play minutes against any top line in our league and this is a big year from Brendan’s development. I’m certain he can carry on from last season and become one of the top d-men in our league. He really settled in on the island and gives a 100 per cent for the club everyone he’s on the ice.”
