The next name confirmed for the Wightlink Raiders roster for this season is young British forward Alex Sampford who returns for his second season on the team.
The 19 year old came through the Slough and Basingstoke junior system before two NIHL seasons with Basingstoke Buffalo and Solent Devils. In his first season with the Raiders Alex impressed with 21 goals and 15 assists in 46 games. He becomes the 11th player announced for the new season which will start the first week of September.
Head coach Jeremy Cornish says Alex will be a key part of his team this year.
“Alex will be given every opportunity this season to become one of the more offensive threats in our league. His skating is above average and can handle the puck at full speed. I’ll be looking for him to play top line minutes and be responsible in his own end along with playing on a top line. He’s a quality person and a big piece of our locker room. I’m looking forward to seeing how he develops during his second season on the island. “
