Netminding duo announced..

We’re very pleased to announce that Matt Colclough and Dan Weller Evans will renew their netminding partnership for the 2016-2017 season.

26 year old Colclough will return for what will be his 7th season with the Raiders. He has now made more than 200 appearances for our team and head coach Jeremy Cornish says his winning mentality is invaluable every year.

“Matt has become one of our longest serving players and he is the best goalie in the league. Not only is he a fantastic goalie, he also leads by example every single game. He wants to win and gives our team the chance to win every night. I can’t imagine our team without him leading the guys onto the ice and I think Matty’s game improves every year.”

Joining Colclough in the squad will be former Island junior Dan Weller Evans. 22 year old Dan was born in Wales but played for the junior Raiders and the Tigers before spending three seasons as Raiders back up goalie. He has spent the last 2 seasons as back up netminder for EPL team Basingstoke Bison.

Cornish says having Dan back will be a big boost for the team.

“After Aaron Craft decided to jon the Buccaneers, I quickly contacted Dan to see if he wanted to rejoin the team. He has had a couple of years away playing in the EPL and I know he will come back to us a much improved goaltender. I hope he will push Matty this year and when needed I know he can step in and be relied upon. Also Dan’s previous experience with our club and Bison should help our younger players understand what’s expected when playing for our club.”

We’ll make our next announcement tomorrow afternoon as we announce the return of another member of our play off championship team.
