FAMILIAR NAME RETURNS TO THE RAIDERS RANKS

Wightlink Raiders are delighted to confirm the signing of EPL defenceman Brendan Baird for the new season.   19 year old Brendan is the younger brother of Joe Baird who spent three seasons with the Raiders in the early 2000’s.

Brendan is a former Basingstoke and Bracknell junior (winning the English Under 18’s league with the Drones in 2014) and spent last season as a full time member of the Basingstoke Bison EPL squad. He also played 10 times for Bracknell Bees the previous season and has appeared for the Bracknell Hornets in the NIHL over 40 times.  Described as an exciting prospect Brendan is 5’9 and 181lbs and is known as a hard hitting defenceman.

Head coach Jeremy Cornish says Brendan will add some grit to his squad this season.

“Brendan is another young player we are very excited is joining our club. He is a physical d-man who fans will love at the arena and I’m hoping they hate on the road.

He moves the puck very well and we will be looking for him to be strong in front of the net. “

The Raiders squad so far announced reads Matt Colclough, Aaron Craft, Brendan Baird, Ryan Webb and Danny Ingoldsby with Jeremy Cornish also confirmed as player coach.  Most of the squad is now signed and the rest of the names will be announced in the coming weeks.
