The Wightlink Raiders are very happy to confirm that both Matt Colclough and Shannon Long will be back as the team’s netminders for the 2015-2016 season.
25 year old Colclough will be in Raiders colours for the 5th season during which he has firmly established himself as one of the top goaltenders in the league.
He missed the first part of last season away travelling but returned to lead the team to play off glory and coach Jeremy Cornish says he was the first player he raced to sign for the new campaign.
“We are extremely excited to sign Matty back. He is the backbone of our club and was a major factor in us winning the play-off last season. He is a loyal servant to the club and we couldn’t be happier to have him back. His impact in the locker room and out on the ice is there for all to see.”
Also returning is one of the team’s great characters 21 year old back up netminder Shannon Long. Shannon was again a big part of the locker room for the Raiders last season and stepped into the breach many times when needed, never letting his teammates down. Prior to starting last season on the Island he was with Bracknell Hornets and also spent time in the North East with Trafford Metros and on the roster for the Manchester Phoenix EPL team.
Matt and Shannon will form part of one of the strongest netminding duos in the NIHL and will both be back training with the team this summer. They join player coach Jeremy Cornish as the first members of next season’s squad to be confirmed.
