For the second straight week we have once again come away with a three point weekend. Saturday night we hosted the Bracknell Hornets and came away with a 7-2 victory. The boys played really well and I was impressed with how we dominated the game from start to finish. Bracknell are a much improved side this season and it was only a week ago that we had a hard fought draw in their building.
Last night we travelled to Milton Keynes to play another much improved side.
We went into the third period up 2-1, but the game ended 3-3. I only complain about the officiating once or twice a season, but last night felt very once sided to me. I know officiating is a very difficult job, but looking at the penalty minutes for our team compared to theirs is pretty remarkable. Milton Keynes may have the best goalie in the league. We out shot them 50-25 and to be totally honest they would be nowhere near where they are in the standings without him in net. We had possession for most of the night and we should have closed the game out when it was 2-1.
This weekend is massive for our club, we are having a British Heart Foundation fund-raiser for our game against Streatham. They are coming off back to back wins against Chelmsford this past weekend and will be full of confidence. They always bring loud supporters and I can’t wait for this game. They beat us the last time they came to the Ryde Arena, so I know the guys will be keen to seek revenge. Also, we will be having a fans meet and greet in the bar after the game this Saturday. We have lots of guys travelling from the main land this season, so since we don’t have a game on Sunday we will be staying around to spend some time in the bar after the match.
We have been climbing the table the last couple months and are now sitting in fourth. When things weren’t going well, we were in seventh place and this team has shown some great commitment to not quit. We have goals set that I think we can achieve if we keep this effort up, so make sure to get down to the Arena this weekend!
