This past Saturday we played our final EPL cup game against the Bracknell Bees. We went down 4-1, but battled back to make it 4-4 and eventually lost 7-4. It was a decent game of hockey, but to be totally honest it was a game that meant nothing and progressing in that particular cup was not possible.
Playing against quality opposition in that cup really showed the difference in class between the two leagues. I think the games were great for our younger players, giving them an opportunity to showcase their skill to coaches who wouldn’t usually get a chance to watch our games. I am happy that competition is over now and we can focus on the league, league cup and play-offs.
Sunday we travelled to Cardiff for a important league game, we have been on a solid run of late and that win gave us another two points in the standings. Matt Colclough played a fantastic game and bailed us out a number of times and having our third line chip in with 3 of the five goals was good for the team. Our line (Watkins, Paynter and myself) haven’t contributed to the score sheet for a while, so it was good to help the team secure the win.
This weekend is massive for our club, home to Oxford on Saturday and away to league leaders Invicta on Sunday. If we continue on the form we are on, their is no reason why we can’t make a push for a much higher spot then we are currently in. We always set out a league campaign to win it, but a top three finish is where our team needs to be year in and year out.
I’m looking forward to the final push and think we have some very exciting hockey to play yet. Crowds are starting to pick up and it’s vital we get that support to help push the guys on.
See everyone Saturday,
