Looking back at the weekend now and getting three points from two teams higher than us in the table is not too shabby.
Saturday we faced Milton Keynes at the arena and even though we scrapped a draw, we seemed to lack the intensity I and the fans want from our team. Milton Keynes are a much improved side, but a draw is not acceptable with the team we have. We didn’t start playing the way we can until there were about 7 minutes left and by then we were two goals down. One thing it did show is that we do have a team that can play when they want to.
On Sunday we carried on from where we left off at the end of Saturday’s game and came out flying against Streatham. They have been in first place most of the season and we dominated for most of the match. We played to our strengths, moved the puck well and took our chances with they came. I really do feel if we can turn in performances like that each week we will have a fantastic second half of the season and jump up the table. Our first line is clicking really well and after I juggled the lines a bit for Sunday, I think we have really found some balance.
This week we travel to Invicta and winning there has always been a giant task. They are as offensive a team as ever this year and we will need to limit their shots against and try to control the game by keeping the puck and making plays. I think Sunday’s 6-1 win in Streatham should instil some confidence in the boys and Saturday should be a great game against one of our biggest rivals.
Our crowd was down on Saturday again and I know the guys have taken notice. We always have a dip in attendance this time of year, but I know the guys really want the support right now. Even though our results have been mixed, we do have a team that is coming together and learning the Raiders way of playing.
Try to get behind the guys and let’s get the arena back for our game against our big rivals from across the Solent. They beat us late in the game a few weeks ago and it defiantly left a sour taste in our mouths. The return game should be pretty heated I would expect.
Looking forward to seeing everyone on the 20th.
