The Wightlink Raiders can today confirm the return of netminder Matt Colclough to the team for the remainder of this season.
24 year old Matt was the Raiders starting netminder in their championship winning team of 2010-11 and returns to hockey after a brief spell away travelling. His signing means that Christian Cole has been released from the team with immediate effect.
Head coach Jeremy Cornish says the chance to sign such an experienced and consistent performer was too good an opportunity to miss.
“We are very excited to have Matty back, he wasn’t going to play this season at all and when I received a message saying he was coming back early I jumped at the chance to sign him. He’s a Raider through and through and with all the new faces it’s fantastic to bring back a familiar face. He’s a leader and one of the best goalies in the league. I feel we have been poor defensively at parts of this early season and bringing Matty back will certainly help in that respect.
We would like to thank Christian for his hard work this season and wish him all the best wherever he lands.”
Matt Colclough will be playing his fifth season for the Raiders and has appeared over 120 times for the club since his debut in 2009. He spent a season in the EPL with Basingstoke Bison in 2011-12 but has been the Raiders first choice goalie for the past 2 seasons.
