Well, what a game on Saturday night! it had a little bit of everything and from what I’ve heard the fans went home happy. We had goals, hits and a couple fights and most fans love to see our players playing with emotion and really working their tails off. Invicta is always a tricky team to play against and I don’t remember us ever beating them in such a high scoring game. To be totally honest, a score line like that is a coach’s worst nightmare.
Last week in training we worked very hard on our defensive responsibilities and I can see the progress that is being made. It’s never easy at the start of the season introducing new systems and this year is even harder because of the large amount of new players on the team. We have 11 new guys this season and we will continue to keep working on these things, but the reality is that it’s going to take a few weeks to get everyone on the same page.
This weekend we have two difficult games, we are away to Swindon (EPL) on Saturday and Sunday we visit the Hornets in Bracknell. Our focus is on the league, so Sunday is what we are working towards this weekend. These EPL games have given our guys some valuable experience against some very good opposition and I like that fact that it shows our younger players what it take to play at that level.
This week in training will be the same as the last couple, we will continue to develop our skills and also work on our team play. If we want to challenge for league honours, we need to make sure we don’t let the opposition get in the way. This has been an exciting start to the season and I think that will continue.
See you in a couple weeks
