The Wightlink Raiders have today completed the signing of defenceman Chris Cooke from rivals Invicta Dynamos. 19 year old Cooke, who is 6’1, has joined the Raiders in time to face his two former clubs this weekend. Cooke is a former Guildford junior who has 83 EPL appearances with the Guildford Flames to his name. He joined Invicta midway through last season and quickly established himself as one of the top defencemen in the league. He picked up 2 points and 8 assists in his 20 games in the NIHL last season and leaves Gillingham to move to play for the Island just 4 games into the new season. Head coach Jeremy Cornish has been aware of the need to bolster his defence and is delighted Chris has finally become available. “We are very fortunate to have signed Chris at the stage of the season and he is a player that I wanted to sign in the summer. He has decent size and has a a good skill set for such a young player. His personal circumstances have changed and he wanted to move home, so when I heard he was available I jumped at the chance to get him signed. Chris is another young player that wants to play on the Island to help progress his career and I think it’s great to be adding young players like this to our roster. “ Chris Cooke becomes the 11th new face to the Raiders team this season. After an indifferent start to the new campaign the Raiders welcome Invicta Dynamos to Ryde Arena on Saturday before travelling to face Guildford Flames in the EPL Challenge Cup on Sunday.
