We can tonight confirm that experienced British defenceman Carl Graham is the latest recruit to the Wightlink Raiders team for the 2014-2015 season.

30 year old Graham, who is 6’0, joins from Basingstoke Bison. He has made over 320 appearances in the EPL and also turned out over 100 times for Manchester Phoenix in the Elite League. He also had a spell with the Raiders in the Premier League back in the 2006-2007 season.

Carl Graham is a hard hitting and physical defenceman and in his last 5 EPL seasons with Bracknell Bees and Basingstoke Bison he has scored 7 goals and 21 assists whilst racking up over 400 penalty minutes.

The Raiders were short on numbers in defence at times last season and Head Coach Jeremy Cornish has made signing more quality d-men a priority this summer.  He says Carl Graham’s experience and reputation made him an obvious fit for his team.

“After I found out that Carl was looking for a spot, I jumped at the opportunity to speak with him. Carl is an experienced d-man and someone I remember playing against in the Elite League. He is just coming off a double winning cup season with the Basingstoke Bison and having that experience on the ice and in the locker room is vital.

Carl is excited about coming to the island and his no-nonsense style of play will be a welcome addition. Our long serving fans will remember him from his previous time on the Island and he said that the positive experience he had from that year was one of the deciding factors for his return.”

Carl Graham joins Christian Cole as the second new face to the team with more likely to follow in the coming weeks.
