Wightlink Raiders have signalled their intentions for the new season with the signing of experienced Czech forward Jaroslav Cesky.
The 35 year old sniper started his professional career in North America but has spent his last five seasons in the top 2 tiers of British ice hockey. His last club was Edinburgh Capitals in the Elite League but prior to that he played in the English Premier League for a number of teams, most notably Bracknell Bees where he scored 86 goals with 114 assists in just two seasons and was named EPL player of the year.
In his five seasons in the EPL he scored 154 goals with 205 assists in 353 league games.
Cesky will join up with the Raiders for the new season in September and Head Coach Jeremy Cornish is obviously thrilled to be able to attract a player of his quality.
“I am obviously delighted we have signed Jaroslav, he will be an impact player on our team and will provide veteran leadership that we have lacked the last couple seasons. I played against Jaroslav back home in the IHL and for us to capture the signature of such an experienced player is credit to how far our team has come in recent seasons.
He is very excited to get started and I am expecting him to be a fans favourite on the island. With his past success I am sure he will help us challenge for honours again this season.”
The arrival of Jaroslav Cesky means that Matt Vizzari won’t be returning to the team next season. Matt had a storming second half of the season which resulted in him finishing among the league’s top scorers and we’d like to wish him well for his future hockey career and thank him for all his efforts.
