The Wightlink Raiders are pleased to confirm the return of top British forward Richard Facey for the new season.

25 year old Facey has been a core part of Jeremy Cornish’s Raiders team for the last 4 seasons and returns for a 5th straight season at Ryde. In 138 league games for the Raiders he’s notched up 80 goals and 144 assists and he regularly finishes amongst the top British point scorers in the NIHL.

Last season Richard was an ever present in the Raiders line up and hit 15 goals with 39 assists in his 32 league appearances for the club. He was the ninth top points scorer in the league with those stats.

Richard Facey is a former Isle of Wight junior Raider who went on to spend three seasons playing junior hockey in Canada before returning to this country in 2010.  His no nonsense play has made him a firm favourite on the Island and he will be a popular returnee to the Raiders fold having picked up the fans player of the year award this season.

Head coach Cornish is pleased to have one of his key players back on the team.

“ Richard has been with us now for over four years and he is a Raiders player through and through. He has come up with some big goals for our club during his time on the Island and I am expecting that to continue this season. Richard is a fans favourite and a player that leads by example, he never takes a shift off and is well respected in our locker room.

I know Richard is excited to get the season started and I’m hoping he has his best year yet in a Raiders shirt.”

So far the Raiders have confirmed netminder Christian Cole, defencemen Carl Graham and Simon Hobbis, plus forwards Jaroslav Cesky, Alex Barker, Cornish and now Facey with more names set to be added in the next week.

The new season, with what looks to be a 10 team league, will start in September.
