The Wightlink Raiders can today confirm one of their big signings of the summer with the news that Alex Barker will be back for the 2014-15 season.
23 year old Barker was the NIHL’s top goalscorer last season and will again line up in his number 67 shirt next season.
Alex signed for the Raiders last year after three years in the EPL with Bracknell Bees and Slough Jets and he made an instant impact for the Raiders with 49 goals and 28 assists in 39 appearances.
Announcing his latest signing Head Coach Jeremy Cornish was understandably delighted to have secured his services for another season.
“We are very excited to have Alex back this year, he settled in very well on the Island and did not disappoint. He led the league in goals and was a real leader down the stretch and into the play-offs. When I rang Alex to ask him if he wanted to return, it took two minutes to get the deal done. It’s a credit to the team that we can attract and retain players like Alex, this season he will be given even more of a leadership role and I’m sure he will flourish.”
Alex Barker is the latest name added to the roster along with Cornish, Simon Hobbis and netminder Christian Cole. Another name will be added tomorrow and this time it’s a new face to the team.
