A final four point weekend in the league.

Two home games this past weekend saw us clinch second place for the second year in a row. I think it sums up the season pretty well and all the top teams have finished in the appropriate spots. Chelmsford definitely deserves the league crown once again. They have the most solid team and guys that are committed to winning. They not only have the most skilled team in the league, they have the most organised team and that is credit to how Gary coaches the team. I remember when we won the league, we had all guys on the same page every night and that’s what it takes to win a league championship.

I wouldn’t go as far to say our guys haven’t been committed, but I would say Chelmsford’s skill and systems are the reason they are champs once again. We have had a up and down season, but I do think the guys have been playing some good hockey the last couple weeks and I know that we will be very excited for the play-offs. The play-offs are the players favourite time of year, the intensity of the games increase and the players give everything they’ve got.

We are not certain who we will face in the first round, but it’s either Gosport or Bracknell. Either team will be a challenge because once the play-off arrive it’s a new, clean slate for every team involved. Since we have the weekend off, we have decided to plan a little team bonding night. We are going to go bowling this week, since we have so many guys travelling from different locations we never get a chance to do things as a team.

Every year I try to set goals for the team and even though we didn’t win the league I would like to think we stayed in the hunt for most of the season. We came runners-up in the South East Cup, Semi-finalists in the league Cup and Runners up in the League. I would expect Chelmsford to win this weekend in the League Cup, but not to underestimate Streatham, they deserve to be in the final with the form they have hit late in the season.

Even though we don’t have a game this weekend, it’s important we have a good week of training and continue on this current run of form we have had the last couple weeks. We will be preparing for the play-offs just like we have been all season, working on parts of our game that need improvement and trying to get better as individuals and as a team every time we are on the ice.

I would like to thank the players for their commitment so far this season, they have been a very good group to work with and we have had a lot of fun in the process. I know they would like the chance at winning the play-offs to cap off the season and I believe that would be the best possible way to thanks our loyal fans.

See you in two weeks when the real season begins!
