Well, another week has come and gone and we are still grinding out the wins. I think it’s fair to say that our team has not fully grasp the idea of tight defensive hockey! Both games this weekend had high score lines and I must admit, I’m not overly impressed with he shots and goals against of the first few weeks of the season.
I do understand with some of the new players we have brought in our offence has improved, but we still need to take pride in playing in our own end and making sure we limit the other teams shots against.
The thing I do like about this team, is the never give up attitude. We went down three goals on Sunday night to Streatham and I didn’t hear one negative thing on the bench. The guys have faith in each other and have seemed to bond together very well in the short time we have been together.
Both wins this weekend were very hard to come by, both Gosport and Streatham have improved this year and those are two teams that will not quit over the course of a 60 minute game.
We have also shown that we will stick up for each other and that’s a trait that can’t be taught. The guys haven’t backed down from a challenge yet this year and as a coach, it’s a great feeling that we have a group of guys that are willing to sacrifice their bodies for the sake of the team.
This weekend will be our biggest test yet, Chelmsford come to the arena on Saturday and I’m looking forward to seeing how we match up against them. They are a great skating team and if we play to our potential we should give them a game.
I hope everyone has a fantastic week and we’ll see you Saturday.
