The Wightlink Raiders have agreed terms with forward Nathan Taylor for the upcoming NIHL season. The former Newcastle Viper is well known to Island fans and this will be his fourth season wearing the Raiders ‘R’. Taylor moved from his hometown club the Whitley Bay Warriors and has impressed fans with his work rate and silky smooth hands. This season will see him retain his position as alternate captain and provides the young Raiders a player they can look up to.
23 year old Taylor played the last half of the season on the top line and scored 17 points in 27 games. Taylor is known around the league as one of the fastest players in the league and when on form is one of the most gifted players in the line-up.
Head Coach Jeremy Cornish was delighted to announce Taylor was returning.
“Nathan is a former teammate of mine from our time in Newcastle, he has settled in very well on the Island and is a very important player in the squad. I feel this could be a great year for Nathan, when I put him on the top line his real talents where displayed. I think for Nathan to be effective he needs to play in offensive situations and this upcoming season he will be given the chance to play in those spots.”
Also returning for his second season is young defenceman Ben Lock.
18 year old Ben is a strong defenceman who stepped up to the EPL last season to feature for Basingstoke Bison and he’s expected to play a bigger role with the Raiders this season.
Cornish says he expects this to be a big season for Lock.
“Ben impressed us all last season and he will be given the opportunity to play a bigger role within the club this year. He has a lot of potential and we’ll be helping him develop that potential with the team.”
On Friday morning the Raiders will announce our next new face to the team.
